Rock-Blasting

Rock overhanging the road to Lake Wägital is a potential danger to traffic. The only cost-effective way of drilling blast holes high up in the steep slope at short notice was to use the Menzi Muck.

Anchoring a trench

Cable strand holes are bored using the 2.8 tonne drill mount equipped with a 5“ down-the-hole drilling rig and outer hammer. In total, 150 tonne anchors have been sunk. This down-the-hole drilling rig can drill cased holes up to 219 mm diameter.

Road and trench reinforcement

A drill mount weighing 1400 kg with an outer hammer is used for self-drilling anchors. A hydraulic rotator is used to position the mount.

An injection connection provides the means via which the self-drilling pipe anchor is drilled in and set in a single operation.

Reinforcing rock faces in Australia

In 2006, the Australian company Rock Engineering took delivery of a Menzi Muck A91 for civil engineering work. An Atlas Copco mount and compressor are being used to reinforce precipices. On this mount, the drill rods are controlled automatically.

Construction and maintenance of ski pistes

Terrain has to be modified when constructing new ski pistes or reworking existing facilities. One aim of such work can be to reduce the costs associated with artificial snowmaking. Menzi Muck can provide a cost-effective combination device for drilling blastholes up to 64 mm. As well as being able to access the most difficult of locations, the all-terrain carrier on which the drill mount (950 kg) is mounted also carries the compressor on its roof, thereby providing a stand-alone and integrated solution. Following blasting, the blasted earth can be levelled using the excavator shovel.

Slope attachment

Encased (superimposed) drilling for fixing rod anchors into loose ground. The down-the-hole hammer is used to drill pipes 1500 mm in length to a depth of 20 metres. Mortar is injected to secure the anchor when the bore hole tubing is withdrawn.

Building ski slope in Sweden

Sweden is to host the 2007 world ski championships. Work preparing the slopes is already underway with a Menzi Muck A91 4x4 plus.
