The inventor of the walking excavator/spider excavator

Ernst Menzi (1897-1984) was not just an ingenious inventor, he was also a born entrepreneur. He founded his first company at the age of just 26. The history of the Menzi Muck walking excavator would not be the same without Ernst Menzi, who died in 1984. Even though he is no longer with us, his thoughts and ideas live on thanks to the company's success and confirm Ernst Menzi's reputation as an inventor and foresighted entrepreneur.

The book "Rheintaler Köpfe" contains more information about Ernst Menzi. (PDF)

The first walking excavator set out from Widnau to conquer the world

The Menzi Muck set out on its unstoppable march to victory in 1966. None of the conventional construction machines available on the market at this time were suitable for difficult work on slopes. Taking the name of a familiar figure from a Swiss fairy tale (Muck, the jack of all trades) the first machine was called Menzi Muck.

The 5000th Menzi Muck

The 5000th Menzi Muck left the production line in 2004. Purchased by Ueli Zogg from Grabserberg, the Menzi Muck A91 stayed in St. Gallen (Rheintal).

The development of walking excavators and mobile all-purpose excavators

Innovation and continuous ongoing development in partnership with Menzi Muck customers were decisive factors in the development of today's all-purpose machine.
